J. Michael DwyerJ. Michael Dwyer specializes in conflict resolution, including mediation and arbitration  related to divorce, custody and parenting time, asset division, elders, small business dissolutions, personal injuries and sexual abuse, and professional injuries such as  malpractice. 

 

Mr. Dwyer graduated magna cum laude from UCLA in 1974 and Loyola of Los Angeles Law School in 1977.  Early in his career he was a federal prosecutor in Los Angeles and then practiced as a criminal defense attorney in Hawaii.  He came to Oregon in 1989 and joined Cosgrave Vergeer and Kester, becoming a partner in 1992.  In 1993 he opened a solo practice representing families in divorce cases and injured persons, particularly victims of sexual and emotional abuse.  In 1997 Lisa Miller joined him to form the present firm.  He often represents children caught in the middle of high conflict family disputes.

 

Mr. Dwyer now devotes the bulk of his practice to mediation and alternative dispute resolution .  He has received extensive mediation training with Jim Melamed and Robert Benjamin.  In July 2007 he will study with Ken Cloke at Harvard's cutting edge Insight Initiative Initiative, which combines advances in negotiation and conflict management theory with mindfulness and the ancient wisdom traditions. 

 

Mr. Dwyer is a member of the Board of Directors and current Treasurer of the Multnomah Bar Association.  Mr. Dwyer is an AV rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell.  He is currently a member of Oregon Meditation Association, Association of Conflict Resolution, the Dispute Resolution Section of the Oregon State Bar, the American Family and Conciliation Courts, and Oregon Trial Lawyers Association. He participated as a Master in the Owen M. Panner Inn of Court
