Lisa Almasy Miller graduated magna cum laude from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and anthropology. She embarked into the business world for three years after college working as an insurance claims adjuster. In 1983, Ms. Miller graduated from the University of Santa Clara School of Law, whereupon she and her husband moved to Oregon.
Ms. Miller has been a trial lawyer for over 23 years, in practice with various insurance defense and general civil practice firms. In 1992, she became the first female partner with Cosgrave, Vergeer & Kester, one of Portland’s oldest insurance defense firms. In 1997, she and her former Cosgrave partner, Michael Dwyer, formed Dwyer & Miller LLP, where she has focused her practice in the areas of family law, personal injury, and alternative dispute resolution (arbitration and mediation).
Ms. Miller is the current chair of the Board of Directors for the Professional Liability Fund and former chair of the Multnomah County Local Professional Responsibility Committee (investigating ethical complaints against lawyers). She is also a member of the Multnomah County Arbitration Commission, Oregon Trial Lawyers Association and Oregon Mediation Association. She is a frequent speaker at legal seminars and is the author of a chapter in the 1996 edition of the Oregon State Bar’s publication on Insurance Law.
